Chempolis has been granted a licence by the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira) to produce bioethanol at the Chempolis biorefinery, which is located in Oulu, Finland.
“This is an important step forward in the delivery of formicobio™ technology to our customers. Now we can start bioethanol production trials at our biorefinery,” says Chempolis President and CEO Esa Rousu.
Chempolis applied for the production licence as a part of its biorefinery expansion. The production of bioethanol is based on the Chempolis´s proprietary formicobio™ technology, which uses cellulosic biomass as raw material. Production of cellulosic ethanol will begin after the expansion of the third-generation biorefinery has been commissioned.
