Formicobio™ - a process for converting lignocellulosic biomasses into bioethanol |
Formicobio™ process is a highly sustainable technology for utilising non-food raw materials in the production of bioethanol. The formicobio™ process is based on similar principles as the formicofib™ process and has the same features.
To reduce dependency on oil, the demand for biofuels and especially bioethanol is growing very rapidly. In the future, sustainable production of biofuels can only be based on non-food feedstocks, such as agricultural residues and dedicated energy crops cultivated on marginal lands. The potential quantity of these feedstocks is sufficient to completely replace oil as a raw material of liquid fuels.
Formicobio™ process resolves the current demand for next-generation biofuels in an environmentally friendly way. Thanks to its favourable process chemistry, the formicobio™ process circumvents the main problems associated with other technologies developed for non-food raw materials. Because it also enables production of multiple chemical products, the formicobio™ process is truly a third-generation biorefining technology.
