Chempolis offers engineering services in all stages of a plant project, including preliminary, basic and detailed engineering. In addition, we co-operate with globally leading consulting and engineering companies and can provide a comprehensive package covering all stages of engineering.
Preliminary engineering
Preliminary engineering consists mainly of conceptual process design, i.e. specifications of main equipment and rigorous simulations of unit operations and entire processes. The outcome of preliminary engineering includes equipment lists and a description of the process in the form of block and flow diagrams. Based on these documents, preliminary engineering gives estimates of investment and operating costs.
Basic engineering
Basic engineering starts after the feasibility of plant investment has been verified. Basic engineering is comprised of basic process design, control philosophy design, selection and dimensioning of process equipment, etc. Basic engineering also includes optimisation of the process structure and state variables based on testing of raw material and detailed simulations. The outcome includes detailed equipment lists, specifications for operating and control systems, and a description of the process in the form of detailed flow diagrams. Based on these documents, basic engineering gives a refined estimation of investment and operating costs.
Detailed engineering
Detailed engineering creates all the information needed to construct, install and operate the plant. The outcome also includes a final estimation of investment and operating costs. The central task is detailed process engineering, which produces a detailed process description, P&I diagrams and associated lists, such as a full equipment list, instrument lists, valve lists, etc. These documents are the basis for other tasks in our detailed engineering, such as automation design and detailed plant engineering.
Automation design creates all the necessary documents for the application and hardware design of operating and control systems. These documents include detailed control, logic and interlocking diagrams, I/O lists, detailed control philosophy descriptions, and all the other related lists and documents. Electrification and instrumentation design is carried out concurrently with automation design.
Detailed plant engineering is carried out with 3D plant design systems. In 3D plant design, the layout of equipment and placement of piping systems and instruments are finalised. The outcome of our detailed plant engineering includes all the documents needed for plant construction.
